Gmx now offer both pop and imap. Current autoconfig is wrong:
Good: imap.gmx.com / pop.gmx.com / smtp.gmx.com
Bad: pop.gmx.net / mail.gmx.net

Source: http://help.gmx.com/mail/overview/pop3/
Sorry, smtp server is correct, this is mail.gmx.com.
hello I have a gmx address.
SMTP settings are wrong.
We need to smtp.gmx.com

Vincent can you provide the correct new/update config ?

I meant as a nice xml file attached to this bug :D not as a comment :D see https://developer.mozilla.org/en/Thunderbird/Autoconfiguration for the file format.
Attached file current gmx settings (obsolete) —
Hi,

I have one question: does anyone know why the imap's settings are not provided and why do I found this strange advert in the current configuration file:
 <!-- imap costs money, see file "gmx.de pay" -->

I think Ben knows.

current gmx settings

Be careful, this file is the current file which is out of date. This is not the patch!

I have talk with j2m06 and he confirmed that he was wrong, the smtp is really mail.gmx.com, has indicated in gmx's help page.
What is the problem? The current config is
<https://live.mozillamessaging.com/autoconfig/v1.1/gmx.com>
i.e. imap.gmx.com (preferred), pop.gmx.com (optional) and SMTP = mail.gmx.com
which exactly matches the doc you mentioned <http://help.gmx.com/mail/overview/pop3/>
Please note that GMX has 2 mail different stores: Europe (gmx.net) and USA (gmx.com). @gmx.ch, @gmx.fr addresses can use pop.gmx.net, but not pop.gmx.com. @gmx.com addresses can use pop.gmx.com, but not pop.gmx.net.
Hi Ben,
Your file is completely different to the one available at http://ispdb.mozillamessaging.com/export_xml/v1.1/1

So what is the file used by Thunderbird? Why is there two different places where the information is available?
caméléon, the ispdb is currently not used at all. You can ignore it for now.
The live.mozillamessaging.com configs are used by Thunderbird 3.x.

I have just open a gmx.fr account and I can confirmed that the recommended settings by gmx are the following:
POP: pop.gmx.com
IMAP: imap.gmx.com
SMTP: mail.gmx.com

Thunderbird suggest pop.gmx.net but failed to retrieve any message from the server. Changing this manually to pop.gmx.com allows Thunderbird to download message from pop server.
For the smtp server, I have tried :
- mail.gmx.net (Thunderbird's default choice) which doesn't works.
- mail.gmx.com which works as indicated by gmx help page.
- smtp.gmx.com which display the warning dialog used to add a security exception and then failed (as expected).

thanks, it is clearer now although an advert that ispdb is not up to date would be useful for users like me...

Then, the last point is that http://live.mozillamessaging.com/autoconfig/v1.1/gmx.fr (and I believe all the others configuration for gmx except gmx.com) are still invalid, as indicated in my previous comment.
Where do you get these settings using "gmx.net"? Maybe it has worked in the past but it doesn't seems to be the case actually.

See comment 12
FWIW, .net, .de, .ch and .at do use pop.gmx.net
http://www.geckozone.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=50617&p=579722#p579722
says that gmx.fr uses pop.gmx.net.

Do you have some official documentation which states that @gmx.fr addresses use pop.gmx.com servers?
OK, I just talked to a developer at GMX (not tech support).
The situation at gmx is complicated. I'll write me the details per email in a few days.
As a general rule, @gmx.net/de/at/ch go to pop.gmx.net, all the rest goes to pop.gmx.com.
However, there are exceptions. For example, a given @gmx.com address
may be either on pop.gmx.net or pop.gmx.com, depending on where he registered originally.
The guy asked me to wait for his reply.

Damn, you are right, j2m06 has made another mistake in this tutorial... I think this is a previous tunning which was working fine but it is not the case anymore...
> Do you have some official documentation which states that @gmx.fr addresses use pop.gmx.com servers?
I just have a screenshot made when I visit my inbox and go to "parametres" and then "Pop3 & Imap". I attach it to the bug report. But no direct link to it unfortunately has it appear in a sort of windows which is not an html page :-(
But arobase is well known in France and confirm these parameters in his presentation of gmx : http://www.arobase.org/gratuit/gmx.htm
caméléon, that matches what the GMX dev told me, but your screenshot does not necessarily apply to all @gmx.fr users, see comment 20.

your right, it is a little bit more complicated that expected... I am waitting that gmx support clarify the situation...

Je confirme , chez moi j'ai bien pop.gmx.net.
 et cela fonctionne  très bien.
je rectifie :
Je n'ai pas fait d'erreur:
J'ai pop.gmx.net.
Cela fonctionne bien
*********************** traduction google
I correct: I did not make a mistake: I pop.gmx.net. This works well

> I correct: I did not make a mistake: I pop.gmx.net. This works well
This is because both settings are available depending of the users, that is why Ben is waiting for a clarification from GMX ;-)

pop.gmx.com  = ok
pop.gmx.fr   = ok

mail.gmx.com = ok (smtp)
mail.gmx.net = bad (smtp)

******traduct google
I just do the test with pop.gmx.com and it works.
pop.gmx.com  = ok
pop.gmx.fr   = ok

mail.gmx.com = ok (smtp)
mail.gmx.net = bad (smtp)
I received answer from my contact. Here's the mapping (you may consider it authorative):

pop.gmx.com:   .com/tm/us/co.uk/es/fr/ca/cn/co.in/com.br/com.my/hk/ie/ph/pt/ru/se/sg/tw/com.tr/it/li

pop.gmx.net:  .net/de/at/ch/eu/biz/org/info
Furthermore, IMAP works for gmx.net customers, too! Yay! ;)
I just tested and confirmed it.
I'll enable that as well.

Gozer, I renamed gmx.de to gmx.net. Does that work with your scripts, do they properly handle deleted files now? If not, it's not important, I can keep gmx.de.
gozer, see above.

Good question, bwinton ?
> If not, it's not important, I can keep gmx.de.

I can also just manually delete gmx.de.

Having looked at the script some, I am not sure what it'll do. svn up will delete the gmx.de file, so I think the rest should be allright.

Can just coordinate with me when landing this, so we can double-check as it's deployed to production.

Which scripts are we talking about? http://svn.mozilla.org/mozillamessaging.com/sites/ispdb.mozillamessaging.com/trunk/tools/convert.py looks like it will take the most recent one, and write those files, so we should make sure we don't have duplicates.

I agree that as long as svn up deletes the gmx.de file, the rest should work out just fine.

Sure. Thanks for looking.

bwinton, while you're here, maybe you could also just do the review? :)
