User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; rv:2.0b11) Gecko/20110209 Firefox/4.0b11 SeaMonkey/2.1b2 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; rv:2.0b11) Gecko/20110209 Firefox/4.0b11 SeaMonkey/2.1b2 1) Clicking "attach to e-mail" in any external program like Word, Excel, Adobe Reader, etc. does not launch a new e-mail compose window. It does not matter if the mail program is already running. 2) This only happened since updating to 2.1b2 from 2.0.11. 2.0.11 had no problems with this function. 3) Composing an e-mail manually and attaching any file functions normally. 4) The same problem occurred on two computers I own - one with Windows 7 and the other with XPsp3. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Open an Adobe pdf file document or any Word or Excel document. 2. Select "file" and then select "attach to e-mail..." 3. A new blank mail compose window should open with the file shown in the "attachments" pane of the blank mail compose window. Actual Results: Program used to open the file to be attached locks up for about 15-20 seconds and then a message similar to "failed to launch e-mail program" appears. Expected Results: A new blank mail compose window would open with the selected file shown in the "attachments" pane of the new blank message compose window.
Please check: Edit->Preferences->Mail & Newsgroups. General Settings. Make SeaMonkey the default application for: [Mail]
I have checked this. If I change my default e-mail program to Outlook then I do not have this problem - clicking "attach to e-mail" in an external program opens a blank Outlook e-mail message with the file attached. If I change the default e-mail back to Seamonkey then the problem returns. What happens is that when I click on "attach to e-mail" in an external program then Seamonkey opens as if I have clicked on the desktop icon to start the program rather than opening a blank e-mail compose window with the file already attached. This happens whether or not Seamonkey is already running. The error message I get if I try to attach an Excel file (for example) says "General mail failure. Quit Microsoft Office Excel, restart the mail system, and try again."
Comment 2 make it look like this is a dup of bug 631524.
