Can you provide a screen shot? I can enter and exit Panorama with a group comprised of only app tabs just fine.

It's important for the tab group to have a title. Untitled groups are discarded when closing/re-opening panorama.

Some people arrange their tabs in groups without giving them titles, because the tab thumbnails provide visual clues as to the grouping. If those disappear, it's sad-making.

Just to clarify: empty untitled groups are discarded. Groups with tabs are _never_ closed.

I am not able to take a screen shot as it just disappears so attaching a screen cast.
Tim is right. if tabgroup has a name is does not disappear.
When I create tag groups initially I normally don't give names and I move around tabgroups(keeping personal tabs in one group and work tabs in multiple groups) a lot.

So to clarify: this behavior is by design. If you dislike this behavior you should probably change this bug (title) to reflect this and open the discussion.

Here I am left with a tabgroup with no name, and just some app tabs, and I chose to enter panaorama, with no intention of closing the tab group, but it got closed. Now I am forced to create a new tab group and continue.
Why not have the same behavior with or without a name for the tab group?

This behavior is by design. Our reasoning is thus: if we don't close tabs when they are empty, it becomes far too easy to clutter up your UI and makes it a pain to manually close all of your empty groups. We have different behaviors for named groups as you've made an explicit action to name them and thus make them more important.
To avoid this behavior, you can name your group, not close the last tab, or not re-enter Panorama when you have emptied the group. Sorry for the confusion.
