This was never a problem until the new update, now its every time I create a account, real pain! I think it has something to do with authenticating. Bill Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.after new pop or imap account is set up 2.try to send email but receive this error Actual Results: error as show above
What did you update to (ie what version are you running now - what did you run before) ? Did you check your smtp settings ?
why no response?? :( please see support website http://www.mozillamessaging.com/support

I am having this exact same issue. Why is there no response from thunderbird. why when this has been reported before does it say issue invalid? This happened intermittently in the last version. As soon as i got the automatic update to v6.0 it seems to be constant. I can send from iphone client but this is not ideal.
Hm, I have the same problem under ArchLinux after updating from 8.0 to 9.0.1. I get the same error message for all 3 of my accounts (all with different SMTP servers). Furtheremore, Thunderbird seems to think I have no network connection, for example it doesn't show the available add-on list.
(In reply to yfyf from comment #4) Downgrading to TB 8.0 fixed the issue.
Do you guys have ipv6 enabled ?
(In reply to Ludovic Hirlimann [:Usul] from comment #6) > Do you guys have ipv6 enabled ? Yes: $ ls /proc/net/ | grep inet if_inet6 $ lsmod | grep ipv ipv6 288122 52 Why is this relevant?
Because we might not handle ipv6 properly (but that's on windows). Yfyf can you file a new bug please ? (try log smtp as described at https://wiki.mozilla.org/MailNews:Logging and attach that log to your new bug).

I'm getting a consistent reproduction of this issue occasionally on Win 7 64-bit with thunderbird 12 & 13. As a result of this issue happening, the error is thrown making it look like a message wasn't sent, but the message actually goes through. My sent folder though does not get updated.
Jason can you get a network log and attach it to this bug ?

According to our mail-server admin, there is at this time no server problem.

Proofing SMTP settings in TB: they are correct. Master password has been accepted: Stored name and password for SMTP are correct.

Work around to fight this message is restarting Thunderbird.
