The design for the stable beta releases (https://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/3.6.14rc/whatsnew/) doesn't really match with the new mozilla.com site design. It should be updated before we ship the first security update to Firefox 4.

Just so I'm totally clear then, this is a *post* Fx4 bug, yes?

This page is only used when we are pushing pre-release stable branch builds to the beta audience. So we will need it after Firefox 4 final but before a Firefox 4.01 (or whatever it is called) is released to the beta audience (which is obviously before 4.01 is released to the entire FF 4 audience...which uses the design in bug 637452)

Spoke with Christian, we are at the stage where we need to re-awaken this bug in prep for the Firefox 5 Beta launch on April 17th. We should use the standard template we had for Firefox 4 Beta (sans "4") and add copy around Feedback and Aurora.

I meant May 17th ;-) Can't go back in time

Glad to hear this is May 17th instead of April! I have a couple of follow-up thoughts/questions:

- what content do you have in mind for this page? Something very similar to the Fx4 version or perhaps more minimal?
- I'd rather not follow the Fx4 version so strictly, because that design was pretty dependent on the sci-fi illustrations. We should either a) source some new illos or b) move to a different template. Let's talk offline about that.

Also, this should probably be a design bug instead of a website bug, but I think we're ok leaving as is.

The content should be very simple and basic, just to cover how to give feedback (similar to what we had in Firefox 4 beta) and a short blurb on Aurora (similar to what's on the channel page) oh and a small promo for mobile beta. But that's it, this page will not be updated often.

I'm fine with whatever template but thought that the Firefox 4 Beta template was the easiest since it already exists. I'm fine with whatever is easiest and quickest to implement and is L10n friendly.

Makes sense. Perhaps we could start with something more stripped-down like http://www.intothefuzz.com/leetom/Mozilla.com/JPG/firstrun_11.jpg as a guide, but obviously tailor that to fit the content (and modernize the design in some subtle post-Fx4 ways).

Grace/Laura...please grab me & Tara sometime soon and let's plan this out. Shouldn't take long.

Grace, I'm putting this into the 2.3 release. We really need to have that meeting about content & design soon to get this kicked off, though.

Grace, to follow up on our conversation it sounds like the next step is for you to send over some basic content recommendations. We can then polish up the copy & design from there. Sound good?
Hi all, resolving this bug as duplicate as bug 649680 is already dealing with What's New page for 4.0.1.

Im opening a new bug to continue discussion and requirements on creating a FX5 beta (and later) first run page (Bug 652213).
