Details
From WE bug 2817172
Problem:
On some systems, there is no executable named 'arch' in the default path. The script "avmshell", which is supposed to select between the i686 and the 64-bit versions of avmshell, fails to identify the architecture and instead invokes itself, resulting in an infinite loop. uname -m may be a better alternative than 'arch'.

What is the "avmshell" script? Was this something added into the player in order to run the exact-gc tracer generator?

hmmm...I think I brought this over to bz erroneously. avmshell script must be something DH has.

(I don't think this is specific to DH. I'm putting notes on the Watson ticket.)

No but this doesn't belong in bugzilla.
