This API (documentation for it at http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/API:Main_page ) is useful in monitoring the wiki system, allowing certain automated bots to access it and getting database dumps for the wiki. Just searching via any of the Special:SpecialPages is hard enough without the API to help.

The api is already available at https://wiki.mozilla.org/api.php.
