The T-shirt-size field on https://donate.mozilla.org/page/contribute/protect-the-web#act-3 is huge (too long); see screenshot.

This field was embiggened to fit the space because the alternative was to stick them immediately to the right of the label ("Womens S, M...") which would no longer be visually aligned with the rest of the form elements. Thus, the input is float right and widened to fit the space.
Screenshot to visually illustrate:

That said, please provide guidance as to how, if at all, you'd like these form fields changed (size, position, etc.).

Can't you just do a <select> widget?

We'd love to, but as Chelsea is aware, these custom fields in BSD are limited to what you see.

Sadly we're limited by the system we're using to host this page (Blue State Digital). Custom fields can't use <select> elements, which is why we had to go with the less than ideal text input.

Can you use JS to display a <select> widget that then posts a regular text <input> to the form?

Sure, there are probably some things we can do with JS but we're wary of trying to go against what BSD is already doing (in case they change something in the near future).
We defer to Paul and Chelsea to make a call on whether this is an approach worth considering.

Isn't it a duplicate of bug 637869

Slightly different issue as this is about the size of the field rather than whether or not it is a radio button. Related though.
