User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux i686) AppleWebKit/534.23 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/11.0.686.3 Safari/534.23 Build Identifier: 4.0rc1 I just realized that I cannot configure FirefoxSync on certain linux systems. I've created a private sync server with the URL http://192.168.56.88. It works fine for workstations running Firefox on Ubuntu-10.04 and others. However: Sometimes, the "Next" button within the account configuration details dialog stays disabled, even after I entered the right server url and waited for minutes. Looking at the access log of the sync server, I realized that no query happened for these cases. After closing the configuration dialog and terminating Firefox, a query gets executed (... something like GET /user/1.0/a). I double checked certain environments and for me, it is like this: * Ubuntu-10.04, Kernel 2.6.32-29: OK * Ubuntu-10.04, Kernel 2.6.38-5: KO (checked various versions of Firefox) * Ubuntu-11.04 alpha3, Kernel 2.6.38-5: KO (4.0b12 I guess) * SUSE-11.4rc4, Kernel 2.6.37.x: KO (4.0bXX) For Ubuntu-10.04, Kernel 2.6.38.5, I checked * Firefox-3.6, FirefoxSync-1.6.3 * Firefox-3.6, FirefoxSync-1.7 * Firefox-4.0rc1 All of them don't work. The button is permanently disabled, the http request isn't sent before shutting down the browser. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Use a recent 32 bit Linux distribution, for example Ubuntu-11.04 oder SUSE-11.4 *OR* use an older distribution with a backported kernel (Ubuntu-10.04, Kernel 2.6.38.5 backported from 11.04) 2. Try to configure "SYNC" using your own server 3. Enter the correct server URL 4. Wait for the "next" button to become activated Actual Results: The "next" button is never activated, no HTTP request is ever sent to the server (checked via access.log) Expected Results: A HTTP request is sent to the server and based on the reply, the "next" button is activated The HTTP request will be sent after shutting down Firefox.
I made some additional tests and it seems that the issue is kine of related to my environment. I used various VMs running under VirtualBox on my desktop. With these, the issue exists under the conditions I described. If I move the sync server to a vm on another host, everything will work fine. I verified this with * Ubuntu-10.04, Kernel 2.6.38-5, Firefox-4.0rc1 * OpenSUSE-11.4, Firefox-4.0b12 (distributed by SUSE) For me, this means that the bug isn't very important any more. I adjusted the importance accordingly.
