User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.6; rv:2.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/4.0 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.6; rv:2.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/4.0 Using Firefox 4 RC: Firefox's "Add-on Compatibility Reporter" keeps displaying alert that automatic checking is not enabled, even after I enable it. When I click Enable, everything is fine until I restart Firefox; after restarting, the alert appears again. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Firefox "Add-on Compatibility Reporter" version 0.8.1 installed 2. Firefox 4 RC installed 3. Open Add-Ons Manager and see yellow alert bar at top of screen stating that automatic checking is not enabled... 4. Click on "Enable" 5. Restart Firefox 6. Navigate to Add-Ons Manager and alert bar stating that automatic checking is not enabled reappears. Actual Results: After every restart, yellow alert bar reappears in Add-Ons Manager. Expected Results: Since "Enable" has already been selected, this alert should not be appearing to prompt me to enable automatic checking.
The exact words in the alert bar are these: "Add-On compatibility checking is disabled. You may have incompatible add-ons." A link called "Enable" is listed after the aforementioned text, and clicking on it temporarily removes the alert bar. The alert bar reappears after I close the current browser session and open Firefox again.
I have also tried the following which does not work: Type "about:config" into address bar. Enter the keyword (in "Filter:"): extensions.checkCompatibility; the "Preference Name" 'extensions.checkCompatibility' appears as first result, followed by other results that have browser version numbers next to them. Anyway, I double-clicked "extensions.checkCompatibility" to toggle it to "true" (I didn't toggle the other similarly named ones which remain "false" by default). After restarting Firefox however, the toggle goes back to false. So, this does not work or function as a "work-around." Perhaps toggling one of the other Preference Names would fix this? It's clearly a bug though.

Patrick, are you still seeing this in the shipping 4.0?
Yes, this problem still persists. Recently, I did a clean wipe of my system and installed the add-on again. (Version 0.84). And when I started Firefox (v4, latest version), I got the message in the Add-Ons Manager: "Add-on compatibility checking is disabled. You may have incompatible add-ons." So, I clicked on the "Enable" link next to it and then rebooted my browser. The message came back. I've decided to uninstall the add-on as it doesn't do anything special for me and it is obviously buggy.

This is simply a screenshot of the message I keep receiving.
Before uninstalling, I did add a screenshot of the message that keeps returning.
I too have this issue, although I suspect that they intend for it to operate in this manner. I have just gotten into the habit of "enabling" the AOCR every time I boot Firefox - annoying, but since I use a lot of add-ons that update frequently I like to make sure that everything is kosher. I understand if they want to keep it this way as a "default" behavior, I just wish they would include the option for the user to switch the default behavior to "always on".

I am unable to reproduce this issue with the lastest version (2.2.3) from “Add-on Compatibility Reporter” on Firefox 50.1.0 (20161208153507) and Firefox 53.0a1 (20170111030235) under Wind 7 64-bit and Mac OS X 10.12.1. Here is a screenshot: https://www.screencast.com/t/MUu9pgseUP3 Is this issue still reproducible on your end? If yes, can you please retest this using latest FF release and latest Nightly build (https://nightly.mozilla.org/) and report back the results ?
