I'd like to load the mass of data we need at startup sequentially (to avoid crushing the browser), and offer some form of condolence to users we detect won't get the full experience, both will be communicated via said (copy-free) initial box.

Most of it is serialized already. I tried adding some kind of loading screen but nothing felt that great.
