User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; rv:2.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/4.0 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; rv:2.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/4.0 Clicking a link from an outside source (such as AIM or IRC) with only one tab open, creates a new tab without a way to close (the X button is missing from both tabs). If you open a new tab X buttons will appear. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Start firefox. Ensure there is only one tab. 2.Click link through AIM or IRC. Actual Results: Two tabs open, no way to close just one without opening a new tab. Expected Results: Open the new tab, with an X button. Theme: MX3 2.6.5. However, this occurs on the default theme (and every theme).
Summary: http://i.imgur.com/7i0hg.png → Tab close buttons are missing after a new tab was created by external app
Reproducible on: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; rv:2.0b13pre) Gecko/20110314 Firefox/4.0b13pre *Note: I could reproduce on a clean profile

Does that only happen when one single tab is open at the beginning?

Finally after trying to reproduce this bug I found that the problem lies in the incompatibility with FXChrome 2.1.3. In failsafe mode this bug is not reproducable for me, and neither with only this appearance disabled.

I can not reproduce this bug anymore: On Nightly: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; rv:2.2a1pre) Gecko/20110412 Firefox/4.2a1pre Was it fixed? If yes, considering changing its status (also on whiteboard).

Andrei, you could check the builds from the last days to find out which is the first build which does not show this issue.
This bug is still reproducible on this latest (at this time) nightly build: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; Win64; x64; rv:6.0a1) Gecko/20110429 Firefox/6.0a1 With only this appearance add-on enabled: FXChrome 2.1.3 What is weird is that firefox is still spell checking although I have turned off the addon and restarted. Without the appearance add-on the bug is Not reproducible.
I am experiencing this bug: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:5.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/5.0 When one tab is open, click a link from an external source - it opens a new tab - there are no close buttons on the tabs. Opening a new tab from Firefox makes them appear. This is reproducible every time.

Did you reproduce it with the addon FXChrome enabled as suggested in Comment 10. I could not reproduce this issue on a clean FX profile (no addons) on latest Nightly: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:8.0a1) Gecko/20110719 Firefox/8.0a1 Which would mean that the bug is resolved if considering its description.
Figured it out - hopefully... I disabled the 'ColorfulTabs' addon and it is now working. So I guess this addon was to blame. Thanks.
