After some poking and comparing the documentation I can't rely on the state of this reference machine as I had fiddled with it quite a lot back in September.
To be sure that we are doing it right from the beginning we will need to re-image it.
Setting up should only take me a day as I have the process well documented.

As per flag this is blocking me from finishing the Windows 64-bit goal. If this could get done before this Thursday that would be excellent.

"By Thursday" is not 'blocker': https://intranet.mozilla.org/IT/SLA
Moving to critical, we'll get it done by COB tomorrow.

By "re-image", since you're referring me to a microsoft ISO, I assume you mean re-install.

Over to shui to do the install via IPMI: you may need to ping phong for license info.

For reference these are the other two instances that Win2008 was installed: bug 561846 and bug 579331.

This should give you the info you need.

I don't know what the difference is between "full" and "server core".
We are going to generate build slaves out of this reference image so the "full" installation should do.
Armen, the choices listed in comment 2 are the options presented when you install from that ISO.

I'm going to suggest that we go with Standard (full) unless anyone has a better suggestion.
Ah! I had not understood that they were installation options.
Sure. That should work.
Thanks!
Agreed, based on
  http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2008/en/us/r2-editions-overview.aspx
We don't need even more server junk we won't use.

How about SP1 ? I think we should start at completely up to date for security patches unless we know something gets broken by them. Armen could do this after the format + reinstall.

Could you please check that we can connect with RDP?
I have tried both the hostname and the IP and I can't manage to do it.

Just checking that I can't reach the machine through IPMI either (10.250.51.50).
zandr added Administrator and cltbld in the allowed users to have RDP.
I can now access the machine through its IP.

We will use bug 637842 to fixed the IPMI issues and not being able to reach the machine through its hostname.

Thanks guys!

On Thursday this machine got Win2008 re-installed.
I checked that I could connect through RDP and closed the bug (maybe I RDPed to wrong IP and gave me wrong ACK).

On Friday afternoon I noticed that I could not connect through RDP to it.

Could you please help me reach this machine?
This is a blocking issue as I need to set up the machine to start cloning off it.

I assigned to jabba as said he might be able to help.

Also note this orthogonal issue. See bug 642893 for more info (not bug 637842).
I did as much troubleshooting as I could Friday given Red Flag conditions.

Jabba, can you look at RDP, and I'll see what I can do about IPMI today, given that at least so far, we don't have another RedFlag. IPMI *is* accessible if you can sit directly on 10.250.48.0 (Mozilla Build WiFi or vlan500 wire)

Bug 642893 had the same problem, I can't touch DNS/DHCP under Red Flag.

I assumed so.

Thanks for taking care of it!
I turned on the permissions to allow remote desktop to work.
