firefox doesn't display the main window when the system has incorrect proxy settings

On ubuntu, if the system has incorrect proxy settings, firefox doesn't display the main window when you launch it.
I've check and firefox process is running but I've got nothing on the screen.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.set up incorrect proxy settings for the system (on ubuntu)
2.restart your system so that firefox was never launch
3.start firefox using the menu entry
Actual Results:
firefox doesn't display the main window.
You can check using 'pas aux | grep firefox' that the firefox process is running
Expected Results:
at step 4, firefox should display the main window and present the usual error page when you're not connected to the internet.
I'm using firefox-4.0 package from the mozilla daily build ppa.
My computer is a macbook pro 7,1 running ubuntu 10.10 x64.
