See the attached picture for comparison between Firefox 3.6 and Firefox 4.

The fonts on the Menu bar, tabs etc. all look grainy on the new version whereas on 3.6 they looked fine and smooth just like on all my other applications.

Reproducible: Always
There is a difference between the d2d rendering of fonts and the normal windows GDI rendering. This is intended by Microsoft and it should be the same in IE9. Does it go away if you disable the hardware acceleration in Firefox ?

I can reproduce this bug. Disabling hardware acceleration makes the text look good again.

If it is impossible to render text properly using hardware 2D acceleration it should be disabled by default for 2D.

A lot of users seem to have problems with this; see e.g.
