Using Silvermel 1.4.0pre_trunk_r4442 theme, not enough of a nuisance to use the default theme for long enough to find out whether it's the cause. I'll update the bug if the problem persists when Silvermel is released.

Bug reappeared for the first time since reporting it (and updated Silvermel to r4567). Since the bug is not reproducible, i.e., occurs only very occasionally, starting in Safe Mode isn't going to help -- it would take weeks of starting and restarting to even get a hint. Ditto for turning of individual add-ons. I'll try a new profile. If somebody more familiar with the inner workings of tabs can give me a clue as to where to look, I'd be happy to research it further.
