This bug is spun off from bug 644255 -- see bug 644255 comment #31.

The whatsnew page for FF 3.5.X users on PPC Macs offers upgrades to
Firefox 4.0 -- which by design doesn't work on PPC Macs. We shouldn't
be offering an update that we know wopn't work.

This problem used to also effect FF 3.6.X, but has now been fixed (see
bug 644255).
Here's a screenshot of the "bad" FF 3.5.18 whatsnew page, from bug 644255 -- attachment 521521 [details].

John or Laura:

What should this page be instead? The whole thing is an advertisement to upgrade to Firefox 4. Should it just say to upgrade to 3.6?
I think we need some new copy for this page for PPC/<10.5 users.
Thanks James. Here's my suggested copy for the page - let me know what you think.

visual: keep the triangle/exclamation point graphic

headline: You are now running Firefox 3.5.x

body:
Thanks for downloading Firefox, but this version is out of date. Unfortunately your computer's operating system isn't compatible with the most current Firefox (_learn more_), but you are encouraged to download the most recent version that *is* compatible instead.

button:
3.6 download button

The learn more link above would point to the Fx4 systems requirements page.
Target Milestone: 2.0 → 2.1
> headline: You are now running Firefox 3.5.x

Can we drop the version number? All old versions of firefox show this page, so it'd be nice to keep this generic.

I wonder who is still installing these old versions anyway.
I think it's worth including the version number so we can make the point that they're using an outdated version and should upgrade. Would it be better to make that 3.x.x, then?

And yes, I wonder who's installing these old versions too. We're definitely dealing with the long tail here.
Actually, we can grab it from the user agent if old versions of Firefox included it (I'm sure they did). I think 3.x.x would look confusing to a non-techie.
Target Milestone: 2.1 → 2.2
Sorry, for clarification I don't mean literally saying 3.x.x. - that was just my shorthand for saying we should grab it from the user agent if possible. Basically the idea is to display whatever exact version people are running so we can point out that they need to upgrade.

Thanks!
James, we're triaging some bugs today. Are we good for 2.2 here? Need any more info from us or want to discuss further?
No, I think I should be able to finish this. I can finish it this week.

Visit that with a User-Agent with PPC in it. We weren't able to generate a 3.6 download button (product-details doesn't support it), so I linked to the all-older.html page instead.
