Details

(Whiteboard: [bugday-20110513])

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux i686; rv:2.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/4.0
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux i686; rv:2.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/4.0

Sometimes, when I click on a drop down menu, the menu just disappears immediately. I am not able to reproduce this. But I've never come across this problem in earlier versions of FF.

After keeping FF open for a long time ( more than two hours ), moving the mouse after right click makes the context menu disappear. For e.g. I select a text to copy, and right click. Now the context menu appears. The moment I move the mouse pointer ( to select "copy" ) the menu disappears. The only workaround for this is if I minimize FF and do the same action in some other window like nautilus and come back to FF and do it, in which case it works fine. I'll try to get a screencast of this problem.

Problem seen in Windows XP and Ubuntu Linux on Firefox 4.0

Reproducible: Sometimes

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Keep FF open for more than two hours
2. Try selecting credit card expiry date from drop downs on a shopping site after checkout
3. Try right clicking anywhere inside the firefox window. *( Except the Title Bar)
Actual Results:
Nothing happened. Only works sometimes.

I think it happens the same as in this bug:
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=375848

In Ubuntu, it happens after leaving the screensaver. Changing to another window (or minimizing Firefox and restoring it) fixes it.

Video of the behaviour seen as a result of this bug.
I have the same bug. Ubuntu 10.04 - 2.6.32-30
When it starts to happen its not only for context menu but for bookmark toolbar too. Folders in toolbar cannot be opened until I perform a long right click on them. Problem can be solved by opening or switching to a firefox parent window like error console, or some dialog.

Error: uncaught exception: [Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x80004005 (NS_ERROR_FAILURE) [nsIURI.host]"  nsresult: "0x80004005 (NS_ERROR_FAILURE)"  location: "JS frame :: resource://testpilot/modules/feedback.js :: FeedbackManager_isInputUrl :: line 109"  data: no]
I confirm the bug on Linux Mint 9 and Ubuntu 11.04. I cannot change the search engine of the search bar as well because the menu disappears immediately if I try to choose an item.

Addons: Noscript, Ghostery, Adblock, Greasemonkey, Bartab and Better Privacy
Sounds kindly like the Compiz issue which is covered on bug 638386.
