User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.6; rv:2.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/4.0 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.6; rv:2.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/4.0 You guys have apparently created a memory leak in the new version which makes it impossible to upload reasonable-sized videos to YouTube using Firefox. In fact, it makes it impossible to do anything at all on my computer after it has been uploading for a couple of hours. I killed every other app on my machine. Firefox gobbled up all the VM. I closed all but the one tab in Firefox. The VM thrashing gets so bad that the upload process can't complete. I couldn't even QUIT Firefox. I had to "Force Quit" (kill) it. Please fix this soon. I hate to have to use another browser to do my YouTube work! (Thanks!) Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Upload a 1 GB video to YouTube. 2. Rinse & repeat. It won't be long until you have NO virtual memory left! 3. Actual Results: Already answered: Thrashing, couldn't run anything on computer, eventually including Firefox. I had to kill my upload (Force-Quite Firefox) after 6 hours invested in it! Expected Results: It should have released the VM it requested, and finished uploading my video! What more can I say: I'm running a MacBook Pro, 2.4 GHz Intel Core i5, 4 GB RAM, 1067 MHz DDR3, 350 GB internal HD, 4 TB of HDs on firewire. System Version: Mac OS X 10.6.7 (10J869) Kernel Version: Darwin 10.7.0 Boot Mode: Normal Secure Virtual Memory: Enabled 64-bit Kernel and Extensions: No Hardware Overview: Model Name: MacBook Pro Model Identifier: MacBookPro6,2 Processor Name: Intel Core i5 Processor Speed: 2.4 GHz Number Of Processors: 1 Total Number Of Cores: 2 L2 Cache (per core): 256 KB L3 Cache: 3 MB Memory: 4 GB Processor Interconnect Speed: 4.8 GT/s Boot ROM Version: MBP61.0057.B0C SMC Version (system): 1.58f16 Firefox: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.6; rv:2.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/4.0
P.S. I always keep 2 additional YouTube tabs in Firefox open while I work. They are usually just sitting in the "My Videos" page when I am not using them. I don't know if this could appreciably influence the state of Firefox, but, being better safe than sorry, I thought I should mention it.
A similar behavior has been reported for Firefox 4 on Windows in bug 647592.
