User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:2.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/4.0
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:2.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/4.0
FF4 installs fine in non-default location:
profiles.ini in Users/username/AppData/Roaming/Mozilla/Firefox:
IsRelative=0
Path=E:\my preferred Firefox Profile location
However, even though the installation process looks fine for extensions, the extensions do not install.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.specify in profiles.ini in Users/username/AppData/Roaming/Mozilla/Firefoxn a non-default location for FF Profile
2.install FF4
3.(try to) install an extension, for example UnMHT
Actual Results:
extension is not visible in any way
Expected Results:
extension installed and operational

Works for me on an x86 version of Win7:
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; rv:2.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/4.0
I created a firefox in a non-default profile location (my documents) using the firefox profile manager (choosing a custom location -> Run-> "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -profilemanager) and deleting all other profiles in the appdata folder
The extension UnMHT and other top extensions were successfully installed in the non-default profile folder and were running normally.
Remaining Unconfirmed. If you still see the issue please leave a comment.

I hadn't used the profile manager, I used the modifies profiles.ini that has served me well during all the different Firefox 3 versions.
You can close the bug report, as it does work with the profile manager, and I did successfully use a work-around.
FF 4 and its extensions are running fine and to my satisfaction.
