User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:2.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/4.0 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; en-GB; rv:1.9.2.15) Gecko/20110303 Thunderbird/3.1.9 Threading rocks. Unified folders rock. Never the twain shall meet? It would be very nice if the Unified FOlders view could be threaded! Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. View your inbox in the Unified Folders view (Click Inbox at top or the unified inbox) 2. Try and thread the messages Actual Results: Can't do it. WMesages don't thread. Expected Results: Threaded messages. Maybe not a bug, so much as a feature request. Couldn't find it filed already. Searched on "unified folders threaded"
WFM with Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.5; rv:2.0.1pre) Gecko/20110410 Thunderbird/3.3a4pre. Anything in Tools -> Error console ? Does it work if you start Thunderbird in -safe-mode (see http://support.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode) ?
No errors and doesn't work in safe mode. Doesn't surprise me. Doesn't have the hallmarks of a local bug, more of a simple lack of implementation. That is I assumed, threading simply hasn't been implemented in the unified folders view ...
WFM : means that it works for me ... So I'm wondering why it doesn't work on your machine/setup.
Oh, sorry I didn't get the TLA. A true surprise ... I wonder if you have a screen grab of the whole thing so we can be sure we're talking about the same view? Find it hard to understand why it would work on one machine and not the other. Threadeding works fine in any otehr view, just not unified folders. Well it works in the unified folders view if I look at a single mailbox under inbox, but not the unified inbox!
There's a fair amount of code dedicated to implementing threading in unified folders. You could look at other unified folders (e.g., sent, or trash) and see if threading works there.
Sent: not threadable. Archives: not threadable Junk: Not even unified, let alone threadable. Unified folder empty, individual folder full. No filters or anythibng odd detected. Just nothing shown.
You might look at virtualFolders.dat, at the top of your profile directory, and see if there's anything weird looking about the scopes of the saved searches for your unified folders.
Thanks guys, for the tips. I've got the virtualFolders.dat file open but nothing looks weird or everything does depending on your goggles. I don't know how to diagnose what's weird in it. It clearly has blocks of four entries: uri= scope= terms= searchOnline= Quite a few that all cursorily gel with what I have as accounts and such, but a more detailed assesment of what is odd. I've googled it a bit and this is informative: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Saved_Search But I don't actively use saved searches, in fact never heard of them (looks nifty though) so I'm left wondering are unified folders implemented via saved searches? Checking properties of the unified folder confirms that. Thanks. I've learned something. Checking the folders it searchs in the Junk sample I find a lot of spam and junk folders not seelcted so I chose them all and this fixed my unified Junk folder. Cool. Not a big win in functionality as I wasn't too phased about its absense, but a great step in understanding for me. I found that some of my inboxes as well were not on checked on the unified folder view. Fixed that. Perhaps arises on account of the order in which accounts were added. More recent accounts I added were not checked for example. Still, easy to fix now. The dialog and settings are so simple though I see nothing there that could infludence threading and threading clearly does not work on any of the unified views. Forsooth, as it seems to for Ludovic.

Forsooth, as it seems to for Ludovic. And you get no errors on startup in -safe-mode right ? https://wiki.mozilla.org/MailNews:Message_Threading#Preferences_Controlling_Threading might help you too - just make sure you did not disable threading for instance.
That's right no error messages in starup in safe mode. Checked the preferrences controlling threading and all is good. Changed a few just for the heck of it, and same deal, I get threads on individual mailboxes but not on the unified folder. The thread of notifications about this conversation is a case in point. In the specifica mailbox it's in, it's a threaded conversation and in the unified folder I see only the latest one (the older ones are off screen after other msgs - i.e. the view ain't threaded). Lord only knows what might be up if it's local and everyone else sees unified folders threaded ...
Bernd, do you still see this?

No, I don't. It seems to thread in unified box now just fine. Which is pleasing. I'm not sure when it cam good as its been two years and lots of updates and my memory poor but thanks for the bump, we can close this as fixed.
