It works (only the small window, not the medium or big ones) with Safari and Google Chrome. But it does not work with Firefox. I discarded Java and downloaded it again. No result. Works fin on pc with Vista 7 too. But on both mac (MacBook and iMac)it does not work under Firefox (3.6.16) Reproducible: Always Expected Results: It used to work fine in the past years. I am expecting the same result again.

This is *not* a duplicate of bug 645556, which has to do with OS X 10.7 (Lion).

Please provide a testcase. FF 3.6.16 works just fine with all the Java applets that I'm aware of, on OS X 10.6.X, 10.5.X and 10.4.X.
Just try using Live Timing on the official F1 site (http://www.formula1.com/live_timing/). It does not work. In the help section it refers to Java Runtime Environment. It works with Google Chrome and with Safari but not with Firefox.
I just tried one of the Java applets at http://www.formula1.com/live_timing/, and it loaded fine. Please be more specific about what "does not work". For the record, you need to register (free) before you can use any of the Java applets.
Bonjour Steven Michaud You are asking me to be more specific. On the Formula 1 official site (http://www.formula1.com/live_timing/live_timing.html) There are 3 windows for Live Timing. Both medium and big windows do not work under any navigator. It used to in the past years. The small window works with Google Chrome and Safari but not with Firefox. I just tried it now. If I go under "help" in the small Live Timing window I can find a reference for Java Runtime Environment (by clicking on the word "here"). It takes me back to the update (mise-à-jour de logiciels) under the apple and everything is up-to-date. I don't know what else I could tell you. Thanks for answering and have a nice day. Jean
You still haven't told what you mean by "doesn't work".
Steven Michaud When it works I get something in the window. Like Live Chart which is a colour diagram of the position of each racing car for each lap. Or the timing for each car for each third of the track and the total time as well, or wheather info like the temperature on the track. And I get the commentary as well, each time the presentator (?) writes one. When it does not work I get a gray screen and no info, just a gray screen or gray window. Sorry for my english which is not as good as I would like. Hope this info is helpful for you. I will try to send you a capture of both windows (one that works and one that does'nt) Jean
Steven Michaud I just sent you screen captures of what I mean about "works" and "does'nt work" on your email address. Sorry if I mispelled your name on those ones. It this useful to you? Jean
> When it does not work I get a gray screen and no info, just a gray > screen or gray window. Thanks -- this is what I was after. > I just sent you screen captures of what I mean about "works" and > "does'nt work" on your email address. Thanks. I'll look at them when I get the chance (probably tomorrow). And if they're not too big, I'll attach them to this bug. I may not be able to reproduce the problems you see, but at least I now know what they are.
Hello I am not sure how to get the update on this site. Any answer from Steven Michaud? Have a nice day Jean
I just tested again with Firefox 3.6.16 in OS X 10.6.7, and didn't see the problem you report in comment #8, or that's illustrated by the attachments you sent me. Here's what I did: 1) Visit http://www.formula1.com/live_timing/live_timing.html 2) If need be, log in where it says "Sign In/Register". 3) Click on the red button that says "Launch within Formula1.com". At this point the applet loads (for me, within the page) with no problems. Note that it takes several seconds for the applet to finish loading -- you might not have waited long enough. The applet doesn't load if I click on the orange/yellow button that says "Launch, New Window - Standard" or the purple button that says "Launch, New Window - Large". But, as you say, this also happens with Safari. Please attach any error messages you see in the Java Console. (Don't paste them into a comment -- attach them as a separate file.) To make the Java Console run when a Java applet is launched, you need to do the following: 1) Run Applications : Utilities : Java Preferences 2) In the Advanced tab, choose "Show console" under "Java console". Site note: Interestingly, the in-page applet doesn't work in Firefox 4, which displays a "missing plugin" error. This may indicate that there's a problem with the Formula1 applet, or with the page that loads it.
Please let me know if you're able to load other Java applets -- for example http://java.sun.com/applets/jdk/1.4/demo/applets/Clock/example1.html.
> Site note: Interestingly, the in-page applet doesn't work in > Firefox 4, which displays a "missing plugin" error. This may > indicate that there's a problem with the Formula1 applet, or with > the page that loads it. This problem is unrelated, and is a dup of bug 638171. It's also been fixed (testing in today's mozilla-central nightly). What triggered this (unrelated) bug in FF4 is that the page which loads the applet specifies its MIME type as "application/x-java-applet;version=1.6".
Bonjour Steven Michaud When I click on this : http://java.sun.com/applets/jdk/1.4/demo/applets/Clock/example1.html., I get a page with text. Simply that. The "lunch within Formula1.com" window is still not working (no commentary, no chart, just a white widow). When I click on any of the tabs on top, there is a "#" that appears in the address on top (URL) and nothing else. And it is not a matter of time. A 5 minutes wait does not change anything. I clicked on the "show console" in the advanced tab of the Java Preferences and it didn't change anything. At this point, I will use either Safari or Google Chrome for the purpose Thank you very much for your patience. Merci beaucoup Jean
> When I click on this : > http://java.sun.com/applets/jdk/1.4/demo/applets/Clock/example1.html., > I get a page with text. Simply that. This tells me that you probably can't load *any* Java applets in Firefox 3.6.16. Did you try looking for error messages in the Java Console? If so, and if you saw any error messages, please attach them here. Otherwise I'm going to have to close this bug WORKSFORME. It's possible that what you're seeing is caused by a bug in Firefox 3.6.16, or in the Java Embedding Plugin that's bundled with Firefox. But I think it's much more likely that something else is wrong. In any case, there's not enough information here to allow me to reproduce or identify the problem -- which means there's nothing I can do about it.
> I clicked on the "show console" in the advanced tab of the Java Preferences and > it didn't change anything. Oops, I hadn't noticed this before. This means that Java (the JVM) isn't even starting. I'm closing this WORKSFORME. When/if I get any more information about this problem, I'll reopen it.
