http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/new/ http://glow.mozilla.org/ There is a 2 million difference in numbers between the 2 sites, I guess the json feed mozilla.com gets its information from has incorrect data.

Are we sure that it's not just a time lag thing? I know the mozilla.com version only updates every few hours.

not a time leg thing because mozilla.com is 2 million higher than the live counter, in theory it should be lower.

The home page uses the number from this json feed: https://metrics.mozilla.com/stats/firefox_4_final_downloads_total.json

The number on the metrics dashboard is actually from our data warehouse which contains all downloads of 4.0 even the RC1 or downloads before the release date. Glow was manually reset to 0 at 6 AM on launch day. To add further confusion, glow has more aggressive filters in place due to odd traffic. Those filters are not in our data warehouse.

Would something along the lines of an embeddable "widget" from glow make things easier? We could even do a once-per-second updating of the number. I am formally volunteering to write this. :)

(In reply to comment #4) > Glow was manually reset to 0 at 6 AM on launch day. Which I found strange in the first place, given that because of that, it doesn't measure all 4.0 downloads but instead all 4.0 downloads after an arbitrary point in time. Well, nothing that can be changed after the fact, I guess.

As is, I am looking at having to move the current download count from hourly to nightly because it is a somewhat expensive query.
