I sometimes check mail on the same IMAP account using two different mail agents.
This results in Mozilla downloading and playing the "new mail" sound when the
mail isn't in the state of "unread", since I already read it using the other
agent.
Should Mozilla only play the "new mail" sound if the new mail in unread.
The is off cause only happening on IMAP.

To reproduce:
0) send a mail to your self
1) check mail using other mail agent than mozilla
2) mark all mail as read
3) exit mail agent
4) check mail using mozilla
5) mozilla now downloads the "new" message since it's kind of new (not in the
local db)
6) sound play (but shouldn't)

This is still annoying with Mozilla1.5RC2

I tried a new test, the results of which is more annoying. I moved a message
from my Inbox to another folder which I have 'check for new mail' activated.
This test is all done with the same mozilla, same computer, also. Mozilla
updated the folder numbers when I moved the message, but then when it checked
for new mail, still said I had one new message!

It appears that multiple computers are not necessary. It seems that biff gets
activated when there is ANY movement of mail between folders where 'check for
new mail' is activated on the destination folder.
I just heard about this but from one of the users I support. I figured I'd give
this one a poke since it's still alive in 1.7.2.
Summary: shouldn't play sound if mail is not "unread" on IMAP → shouldn't notify (alert, play sound) if mail is not "unread" on IMAP server

I recently upgraded from Thunderbird 1.0.2 to 1.0.6, and this problem started
happening to me as well. I then backed up my Thunderbird application data
directory and uninstalled 1.0.6, reinstalling 1.0.2 after this was done. The
problem still exists in 1.0.2. The only way to make it shut up is to set "Check
for New Messages Every xx Minutes" to 60, so it aggravates me less.

Pleeeassseeee fix this problem! :-)

bug's not here. (windows XP 64)
Can't say for sure but I never seen this since 2.0.0.x builds, but it definitely not reproduceble on mine 2.0.0.12.
Haven't seen it either (at least for years). WFM.
