id like us to consider getting rid of the html select popup. i have been filing a few bugs in bugzilla and have noticed that this popup gets in the way. for example, when you change the component of a bug, you either do two things: pan the element to find the right option or click on the right option. in the case where the right option is visible, you click on it then this popup is displayed and you have to click on that. maybe we can just pan html selects and kill off the select popup?
I don't think this is a wise idea
Given that an html select is pannable, and the options are selectable, why does having a popup make sense? Are there conditions that you are considering that I am not aware of? Certainly, with the example of 'filing a fennec in bugzilla and setting the right component', the popup really is not required but forces the user to confirm their choice.
I'm not sure I follow your line of thinking. Have you tested that we support panning a native select dropdown? Are those even supported in an e10s/layers world? Are the UX considerations of a 7mm touch target for tapping items in the list met? I really don't think we want to start using native select dropdowns for the primary UI. Do any other mobile browsers do this?
