Can you please merge my john.hopkins@mozillamessaging.com bugzilla account (and permissions) with my newly created jhopkins@mozilla.com account?
The intent is to replace my john.hopkins@mozillamessaging.com account.
Thanks,
John

Why didn't you just change the email address associated with your existing account? That's a much simpler way of doing it...

Gerv is right. Have you used the new jhopkins@mozilla.com account for anything yet? If not we can rename it to something harmless, and then rename the old one for you. If you have done a lot with the new account then a merge will be needed.

No, I haven't used the new account for anything - it can be renamed or removed.
I wasn't aware that I could rename the old account - if it's a self-serve operation, then instructions would be appreciated. Otherwise, please go ahead and rename my old bugzilla account. Thanks!

Seems like a good thing to cover on the Bugzilla Tips blog. I guess many people do not know this, since it's not typical for you to be able to change your "user name"...

Yes it is a good thing to be documented somewhere. I think we should create a wiki on w.m.or/BMO that has this information and then link to it from the home page of BMO.
Also, to mention that once the user creates the second account it takes and admin to fix as they cannot rename the 1st account since it will complain about a duplicate account.

Let's merge the accounts instead. Dave, note the other account is jhopkins@mozilla.bugs.

https://wiki.mozilla.org/BMO/Requesting_Changes (which I just moved to that URL, as it's a better name) has details of how to merge accounts.

That page looks kind of busy for random user information. Most of the information on that page is only applicable to module owners. We should have a more general page somewhere with just the information that applies to average end users.

So I'm confused here, what am I merging? (source account, destination account)

ok, looks like the @mozilla.com exists, still and mozillamessaging is gone, so I"m assuming the @mozilla.bugs used to be the mozillamessaging one?
So I'm doing jhopkins@mozilla.bugs -> jhopkins@mozilla.com ?

I have created a placeholder for the average user questions at wiki.mozilla.org/BMO/FAQ so we should add this question/answer there instead. My plan is to eventually have the above link off of the BMO index page. Maintaining a FAQ as a Bugzilla page.cgi will require code updates whenever we want to make a change so I feel the wiki is the better choice for now.

I've lost my mozilla-messaging permission bit in the migration. Can you please reset it?

If there is more work to be done on my account, then I'm not aware of it. Everything is working fine.
