Details
We have firstrun and whatsnew pages for each Firefox 4 Beta and RC release. These pages should be cleaned up (removed and appropriately redirected - maybe to firefox/out-of-date/). I'm not sure if we keep beta/RC release notes pages around or not.

Laura, as discussed on the phone today, here's a list of the pages that remain. They are mostly releasenotes, whatsnew, or firstrun pages for each of the (many) betas and RCs. For the firstrun/whatsnew pages, we could redirect to the 'out-of-date' page (http://mozilla.com/firefox/out-of-date/) like we do for unsupported major releases (like Fx3.5). However, you might want a beta-oriented version of the out-of-date page that directs people to the new channels. I'm not sure how many people actually end up on these pages these days. Might be worth taking that into account. Please advise. These pages get a fair amount of traffic. Over 1M views to the various First Run pages in the last 30 days. +1 to the plan in comment #3. Specifically: using a beta version of the /out-of-date page that links people to the new /Channel page. Perhaps remove the download button and change the copy to: "Thanks for downloading Firefox, but this version is out of date. To download and test the latest Firefox builds we recommend you [try a future release version here]." (may need some wordsmithin') Not sure how we handle old rel-notes but they seem pretty useful to keep around to have as a record (somewhere...). LoMo - thoughts?

I really like this plan. We'll need some of matej's magic on the copy, but it should definitely point to the channel page. As for keeping the rel-notes, I agree that it's best to keep the documentation in order for us to have something to reference if we need to. Other than that, no need to keep anything else. What are next steps here?

The Out-of-Date page for betas is now setup in trunk (Bug 656721). I've added the redirects and removed the firstrun/whatsnew pages for all Beta and RC builds of 4.0 and 3.6. 40 dirs and 40 files removed. Awesome. This will need to be pushed with Bug 656721.
