As far as I can tell, none of the email preferences apply to component watching.  In particular, in email preferences, I have the "but not when"... "the change was made by me" checked for every possible relationship, but now that I've set up component watching, I've started getting email for changes that I made (e.g., the change I just made to the summary of bug 594319).
That's a BMO extension, over to them for marking this as a DUP. :)
