The PTO app changed sometime recently so that you can't enter a custom number of hours. This is unfortunate, because there are some important use cases for not taking PTO *time*, but still having the PTO show up in the calendar so others can see it:

* your birthday: I would previously enter this as a PTO day in the calendar with 0 hours, since it doesn't take PTO
* rearranged holidays: it's not uncommon for me or my reports to move a standard holiday to suit their schedule, with manager's permission of course.

I suppose this could be solved with either a toggle for 'let me choose the number of hours', or just letting you put 0 hours for each day, in addition to the current 4 hours or 8 hours.
Note: you can now choose 0 hours for any particular day, but if you just take your birthday, the app still refuses to accept it because "0 is not an acceptable number of hours".
Hm, I am torn on this one. If you can choose 0 hours total PTO, I think it'll create an "unactionable action item" for HR, which I am not sure they'd like.

Perhaps:
- we should not send an email to Karen if the total number of hours is 0
- it should ask if this is what you really want when you hit submit on a 0-hour PTO.

Just thinking out loud.
Our policy is 8/4/0 hours, WONTFIXing unless HR policy changes.
