I set my retention policy in my Trash folder to keep messages for 999 days. I noticed last fall sometime when I did an update that all my trash had been deleted, even though it was supposed to keep it. In March I updated to v3.1.9 and it did the same thing again. Now yesterday, v3.1.9 (did not do any updates) deleted all my trash again!

So basically it is ignoring the retention policy set and delete my trash when it feels like it!

Steps to Reproduce:
Set retention policy to keep trash for 999 days, and then wait a month or two and notice that your trash has been deleted!

Do you run Thunderbird with extensions ?

Lightning v1.0b2 is the only extension that I have for Thunderbird.
No other extensions and no plugins.

at some point you probably lost the .msf index file, which contains the retention setting.

is there a way to guard against losing the retention setting?
I've seen other reports where users lost retention setting and thus lost messages.

jsherk, sorry to ask this, but do you still see this problem on updates?  (2 years later)

Seems to be okay now. Have not noticed trash disappearing.
