Allow users to save only the currently active tab if it has changes via a new button in the toolbar.

How would imagine this working? A separate button in the menu? A button on the tab? How important is this?
It would be a separate button in the toolbar that saves all tabs with unsaved modifications.

You mean a second button next to the Save All button that saves only the currently open tab?

I feel this overloads the toolbar. It seems confusing to me to have 2 buttons that save differently. At the least, this feels like a p3 or p4.
Maybe the goal should just be autosaving all the time and one button to tag revisions? Autosave seems to be the trend with editing documents online.
We could do autosave after a set period of inactivity, but you would still need the save button and it would require modifying the way save > test works now. If you click save while an add-on is installed, it currently saves and auto-tests it for you, this would need to be rethought or go away entirely.
Yep, I'm not saying it's the fastest solution, but it sounds good from a UX point of view. Happy to have other input.
I agree that's how the world is moving: online apps do that, iOS Lion will auto-save...
I agree that files should be auto-saved. Perhaps it should only update the installed version when the save button is explicitly clicked, and auto-saves could be given second-class status; they're merely a data-preservation step.
I feel like this is an *additional* feature, let's change the topic of the bug to reflect this and turn the discussion to how it will operate.
Summary: Implement per tab file saving in addition to the "Save All" we currently have → Implement auto-save functionality
I am moving this to the next milestone being that it is clearly a new feature, we should be focusing on a 0 bug count for 0.9.8.
