bugzilla query advanced search selection boxes are too wide, and can be narrower so they all fit on one row.

there are two rows
1. Classification: Product: Component: Status: Resolution:
2. Version: Target Milestone: Severity: Priority: Hardware: OS:

boxes are excessively wide for set #2, all boxes except OS are way wider than needed for the choices in the selection lists.
This is set by the upstream standard search_form.css rules. So I will move it to the upstream to see if this needs to be changed.

.search_field_grid select {
  width: 17em;
  height: 15ex;
}

The width of the selects are set to 17em. If that is removed the resize based on the largest value.

Hey Wayne. Thanks for the bug report. This behavior is actually intentional, as an aspect of the new design. The idea is that there is a "grid" on the page, and that the UI follows that grid, even though many pieces of it are in various places. We actually decided to favor simplicity over information density, as we felt that favoring information density has actually been a cause of Bugzilla's over-complex UIs for many years.

I definitely appreciate that cleaner UI is desirable. However, in this case perhaps the pendulum swings too far in it's affect on workflow? :)

I filed follow up BMO Bug 654683 bugzilla query advanced search selection boxes are too wide

  Well, we're always happy to have user feedback. You're welcome to describe your workflow and case that is difficult for you. We will take it as individual user feedback, but if we get a fair bit of similar feedback, your information could be very valuable.
