Details

hi,

need help in getting the code deployed to production and "network activate" the theme so it will be available to use on network blogs. In addition, we also need it to link to blog.mozilla.com/futurereleases.

here are some details below:
Name of the Blog: Future Releases Blog
Link to Blog: blog.mozilla.com/futurereleases
Access to Blog:
Grace Jimenez - grace@mozilla.com
Laura Mesa - lmesa@mozilla.com
Caitlin Looney - clooney@mozilla.com
Mayumi Matsuno - mmatsuno@mozilla.com
Erica Jostedt - ejostedt@mozilla.com

The theme is in Subversion in http://viewvc.svn.mozilla.org/vc?revision=88375&view=revision

Please let me know if you need any additional info. The blog page needs to be live on the 17th. But webdev needs the blog to be live before that in order to link to from the new firefox/channel page. (http://people.mozilla.com/~gjimenez/redesignfirefoxchannelpage.psd)

Grace,

Can you explain what page will link to the blog?

There will likely be other links, but we're also going to be pulling the rss feed of recent headlines from this blog into the mozilla.com/firefox/channel/ page as per this mockup: https://bug653291.bugzilla.mozilla.org/attachment.cgi?id=530523

We're probably going to re-use the RSS parsing code from the home page of mozilla.org.
Infrasec bug 656662 created and added as "depends on". We'll do our best on the 5/17 deadline. This would be a quick turnaround.

Is this blog blocking the release of anything?
It would be blocking the release of Fx 5 Beta.

hi michael,

please note that live date is 5/17 but would need it before that date for webdev to implement other pages connecting to the blog.
Severity: normal → major
Priority: -- → P1

What exactly is webdev doing to connect other pages to the blog? Are these just inbound links that won't change any of the theme functionality?

ideally we would love to stage it as soon as possible (make sure it's working etc).
i know you are traveling today, do you know if someone else can help? I would be more than happy to follow up and provide them the details. thanks

For what it's worth, the blog is technically live already at http://blog.mozilla.com/futurereleases/, the theme just hasn't been applied yet so it's using the default theme. But you can do all the back-end prep stuff like setting up your categories, creating the blank archives page, and adding your first post (you can save it as a draft and publish when you're ready, or set it to publish automatically at a future date). You'll also want to delete the default first post and example comment (those are added automatically any time a new WordPress blog is created).

That way you'll have everything in place and ready to go, and as soon as the theme is deployed and network enabled, you'll just need to select and activate it for your blog.

Theme has been installed. I assume the rest can be done by the blog admin.
