Opening tracking bug for migrating or archiving legacy content on www.mozilla.org. We had been using a page on the wiki for this (see below) but a tracking bug would also be helpful. https://wiki.mozilla.org/Mozilla.org/Doc_migration

Linking to archiving and migrating bugs resolved over the last few years to have a complete list of legacy content.

The linked bugs represent over 90% of the legacy content on www.mozilla.org and I believe all of the open bugs have been notified that the archiving process is now a requirement of the mozilla.org/.com merge. There is additional content that we'll want to consider migrating or archiving later but hasn't been included in here yet for a few reasons, including: * It's not clear if this content fits or not in the new site (for instance, the /calendar pages may fit with the Thunderbird content that will be on the site) * Some content needs further discussion with new owners to determine what the right direction is for those pages (for example, the /grants and /drumbeat pages) * Some content overlaps with other content that is moving over and we'll determine what to keep or combine later (for instance, there are identical privacy policy pages on mozilla.org and mozilla.com and both would temporarily be on a merged mozilla.org)

David & Sheppy, It's great to see the progress that's being made on the individual bugs, do you have a rough ETA for completion? -CB

Chrissie, I can't speak for Sheppy but can give you an update on where I am. By the end of the week I'll have finished removing the rest of the abandoned content. That is going to leave a fair amount of owned content that will likely be archived or migrated later that will need to be included in the merge. I'll cover all of this in the content inventory.

I'm ready to do my migration except that we're trying to nail down a performance issue that causes the site to become unstable during the import process. Once that's sorted out I can run my pass. That said, I'm working off a copy of the old site that I've cached locally, so stuff can go away whenever.

The short answer is that I think we have as much clarity as we need right now about what content we want to keep, but that it will take a while longer to sort out the mechanics of archiving everything else. For instance, we can't archive the /drumbeat pages until drumbeat.org moves to Betafarm and I don't think there's a date for that yet. Same with /phonebook and several other content sections. Chrissie, let's talk more about timing in person later this week.

David, Can you comment in here about when you estimate this will be complete. We'll need this finished before we apply the redesign to the site, so we're starting to elevate the urgency on completion here. Many thanks! CB

I don't think this should be set as a blocker for deploying the redesign -- we've done two redesigns recently with more pages than are currently on the site. In terms of when this will be complete, my goal was to have this ready for when we're ready to start moving pages to Bedrock.

David, What resources to do you to have this project completed by the end of Q3? Best, CB

As I mentioned earlier in this bug, all of the abandoned content has been archived and this just leaves content that is owned by someone. For timing, we are therefore dependent on these other stakeholder's plans. For instance, we've been asked not to archive the www.mozilla.org/drumbeat page until Betafarm launches and there really isn't anything I can do to accelerate that. I've been working with stakeholders in a gradual fashion with the understanding that the time frame for having this done was when Bedrock would be ready. Trying to get this done earlier by the end of Q3 is not something I can commit to. If you'd like to accelerate this then we would need more people who can track down these owners and get them to make decisions about their content.

David, If you'll block off time to teach me what to do, I'll gladly jump in and start helping out immediately - offloading this to me is very workable and I'm more than ready to pitch in. ~cb

I'm in MV tomorrow and have some time to go through things then if you're there. If not, we can talk over the phone this week or meet up in SF on Monday.
