Hello,

My Thunderbird, when open, even only for writing a message, asks me to update with way too much insistance.

Here are two scenarii that must not happen. Alas, they happened.

1/ My Thunderbird is open, only for writing a message. A window appears,
telling me that a new version is available. I leave it. For several days. One day,
I come to it. I don't want to update now, so I click "Later". The window
disappears. Great. My Thunderbird is still open, only for writing a message.
So, because I suppose it checks for update once a day, only few minutes after
the window closed, the update window appears again and tells me that a new
version is ready. I still don't want. And the more I am aggressed by this
attitude, the less I want to update. I don't want to update now, so I click "Later". The window disappears. Great.

2/ My Thunderbird is open, only for writing a message. I am typing an email.
I look at the keyboard, not at the screen. When I look back at the screen,
I see that a window has appeared, telling me that a new version is available. The
window is in front of my message. So some of the letters I was typing have not
been written to the email. They have been stolen by the stupid window! This
is unacceptable. I don't want to update now, so I click "Later". The window
disappears. Great. And the more I am aggressed by this thief behaviour, the less I want to update.

Software is made for man, not man for software.

Thanks for fixing this behaviour,

Nicolas Barbulesco

Thunderbird 2.0.0.24 has been released more than a year from now and marked the end of that release branch. Thus, it is now subject to several known security issues, and you /should/ update to 3.1.10 for safety reasons (3.0 is by now no longer supported either, thus you are two major versions behind).

If you nevertheless want to stick with 2.0.0.24, switch off checking for updates in Tools > Options > Advanced > Update. After "Automatically check for updates to:" uncheck the boxes for Thunderbird and Installed Add-ons.

Unless the two scenarios are considered wrong and can be reproduced in the upcoming 3.3 pre-release builds, this bug is probably going to be closed.
We nag users for their own good. I have nothing to add to what rsx11m already wrote. Closing as WONTFIX
