Actual Results: mutliple unlimited instances of plugincontainer.exe can open while I am browsing and cause my computer to crash Expected Results: no extra instances of plugincontainer.exe opening like all software these days, firefox sux and the engineers are strip mall "university" dropouts.
There will be an instance of plugin-container for each plugin that a page uses. If a page uses Adobe Flash, Oracle Java, Microsoft Silverlight there will be 3 plugin containers running.

I see only 1 flash object on the page (actually do not see it, but it is linked and plugin gets loaded. Suspicious). And 1 plugin-container. Has the page changed?
Reporter -> Are you still experiencing this issue with the latest version of Firefox 5?
I don't know this bug reporting process from adam, where to enter comments, answers, requested information or anything. All I know is that I received an email asking me if my issue is still in version 5.0 my answer is yes. I look in my task manager many times and 6-12 instances of plugincontainer.exe are running, just as they were in the previous version. I have not figured out what triggers the addtional isntances to start. That is all I know.

Comment 1 seems to imply there is one plugin-container for each plugin TYPE (e.g. 1 flash object and 1 silverlight object), not instance (2 flash objects). I hope there is no page that contains 12 different plugin types :) Reporter, are you sure you see 6-12 PROCESSES, not THREADS? On Win XP and the linked page I see 1 plugin-container process that has 9 threads. Can you check the settings of your task manager?

There are no important settings that I can make or change for the XP task manager. there are only inconsquential view settings I can change. Not only that, I am a user, not a programmer. I wouldn't know a thread from a process, to me they are the same thing, something running in my computer that shows up in my task manager. And I know that this is Windows (a **** bloated, cobbled together operating system built by a company that does not make software, but rather buys other people's **** and glues it together just like they always have and then they suckers people that know nothing, like me, who are afraid of computers, to "beta test" their products for free even though they are a multibillion dollar company and could easily afford to pay professionals to test it right and release a decent product with a lot fewer bugs, which they never do.There will be 1 plugin-container for each plugin that a page uses. I got Firefox a few months ago and it worked fine.But as soon as I got the update before 5, this **** started with the multiple instances of the plugincontainer running. It was actually worse in the previous version than it is now. It always did that then.I could open up a new page and most of the time it would start a new plugin container. But now With version 5 it does it errratically and opening another browser tab or page doesn't necessarily trigger it and I have not determeined what does trigger it. All I know is that I go into the task manager sometimes and there are a bunch of plugincontainer.exe's open and running. I have not looked to see what the memory resources are that each instance is using. (like most oeher things. The multiple instances, which I can shut down opne at a time by clicking them and selecting to kill the process, start, I am guessing as a response to the Flash software. everything on a **** page now is Flash based is seems, all the videos, everything. it is fricking ridiculous. And I have to install a different version of it for each browser I have. Flash does and always has been an unreliable POS. many times I've not even been able to install it for months in certain browsers. Adobe is the same as Windows. all it's software has become bloated pieces of **** designed to bog down my computer and inundate me with **** I never wanted but now have top let into my computer in order to get what I do need, such as the acrobat reader. Yes, Flash is bad. If you see several plugin-container in the column named "Image name" then, they are processes. I suppose this is your case. I had to go into View -> Select columns -> check 'Thread count' and then I see 1 process plugin-container.exe with 9 in the Threads column. However, I can see this myself. After a day of browsing with FF 5 I have 2 plugin-container processes now. Currently I have only the Adobe acrobat reader plugin 9 enabled, everything else disabled. There is no pdf open, so the plugin should not be in use. But it is possible I have enabled flash in the course of the day to test some other bugs. I also opened a pdf. So is this the correct behaviour? Should I have those instances running even though the plugins are no longer in use, even disabled?

There is one more thing I can add. most of the issues are triggered by my activity on two sites. I play a flash based game on Facebook called Backyard Monsters. I also play a game called IMVU that has a lot of flash based stuff on it's pages. My internet explorer 8 crashes a lot while using both of these sites, so I have to use firefox instead. However, Firefox crashes a lot as well, just not as much or as quickly as IE. In my non-professional thinking it all points to one thing: Flash sucks, Adobe sucks and always have. I think these for-profit software companies drag the bottom of the barrel in hiring software developers. They's been getting them for the cheapest possible wages by hiring "software engineers" graduated from strip mall "universities" such as Kieser.
I your original report you state those plugin-container instances make your computer crash. How does that manifest itself? What kind of crash is that? Or does only Firefox crash and not the OS? Good to hear IE8 crashes too. So it could be a problem with the Flash. But please stop cursing any programmers, it just clutters the bug. Is it possible to play IMVU (the linked page) for free? Than we can test it.
