I was switching tabs by clicking on them, but it kept showing me the same email. I restarted Thunderbird, and all 20 or so tabs disappeared.

I've tried to reproduce this with the last version of Miramar, and I was not able to reproduce it, can you try in safe mode to see if happends the same?...
