I searched a while and found some (old and new) bug descriptions but none is active or describes the problem in a way it is possible to fix it?

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. goto facebook.com
2. login
3. try to add a comment to a status message (do not create a new status message; add a comment to an existing status message)

Actual Results:
No cursor/caret

Expected Results:
There should be a cursor/caret of course (only occurs for Firefox, but works fine with IE, Chrome)

I think it is a major feature having a caret at the correct position. Otherwise it is annoying when typing/editing lot of text.

Workaround: open another tab and go back to the previous one - the cursor may appear

The above Facebook example is just an example. It occurs on a lot of sites (e.g. MSDN Forums)
This issue is well known.
Just google "Cursor disappears in Firefox"

e.g.

Yes, same behaviour in safe mode!
Are you able to reproduce this behavour? (e.g. Facebook)
Duplicate of bug 226301?

Can you reproduce with Firefox 4.0.1 ? (or Firefox 5 beta ?)

Wow, this bug was reported 2003-11-20 00:42:52 PST and it is still not fixed ...

See above comment.
This is reproducible with following, too:

1. Login to google plus and open https://plus.google.com/
2. Click text input below header "Stream" (to start inputting a new "Stream post/message/blog/whatever")

Expected result: the caret is visible
Actual result: the caret is invisible (sometimes it blinks once and never appears again)

Workaround: when the focus is in the textarea, open a new tab and close it immediately.

Additional notes: this seems to be some kind of race condition because I'm not seeing it every time. It seems that if I wait for the Google+ to fully load before interacting with the page, it raises the changes for seeing the bug. After using the workaround to enable the caret again I can reproduce the bug by entering https://plus.google.com/ again into the address bar and then trying to focus the stream post field (again, after waiting for the page to fully load).

Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.9.2.18) Gecko/20110628 Ubuntu/10.04 (lucid) Firefox/3.6.18
Note that I cannot reproduce with Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:8.0a1) Gecko/20110804 Firefox/8.0a1 anymore so I think this is fixed between 3.6.18 and 8.0a1.
I think this might be a duplicate of bug 226301 (or the other way around - this one is much newer but contains better steps to reprocude).
Depends on: 226301

Do they still work?

I can't reproduce with FB nor G+
