I have multiple friends who installed the Firefox 4 upgrade on top of 3.6.x and had this preference get reset, resulting in all their windows and tabs being lost.
That pref should not have been reset. Are you sure that they weren't just used to getting the quit dialog and always pressing restore?

Pretty sure but I will double check.
Clearly we're not going to fix this, sorry things went wrong in 2011 :/
