Hi!

If I have Cleartype disabled in windows and set gfx.font_rendering.cleartype_params.rendering_mode>1 while having hardware acceleration enabled, I get corrupted pages. They're rendered without text and other elements. Also when I set it to -1 or 0 I get grey scale aliasing.

Reproducible: Always

You're forcing DirectWrite to use a ClearType rendering mode, but you've disabled ClearType? It's not surprising that fails! So don't do that.

> Also when I set it to -1 or 0 I get grey scale aliasing.

That's the expected result of disabling ClearType, isn't it?

I don't think broken rendering is acceptable. By the way. While the anti aliasing addon was working (until a week or two ago) with nightlies I used the natural symmetric cleartype rendering mode, and it was working fine while I had cleartype disabled in windows. So logically firefox should also switch to cleartype rendering, when the option necessitates it. (or alternatively ignore it and keep using grey scale).

Works for Me on:
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:6.0a1) Gecko/20110522 Firefox/6.0a1

*Note: Also, please consider that the issue you reported is visible only when changing prefs in the about:config. So it's not a normal/standard Firefox behavior but more of a corner case.
Remaining Unconfirmed.

Same problem here. Firefox 6 seems to have introduced new bugs when ClearType is disabled. I tried changing rendering_mode to 2 as a work-around, but all text disappeared, as reported.
