User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; rv:7.0a1) Gecko/20110526 Firefox/7.0a1 Build Identifier: Users should be allowed to decide what Add-Ons/Search Engines they have installed and thus should be able to uninstall any Search Engine they require. Users should also be given control over which Add-Ons if any are updates automatically or manually. Reproducible: Always
Is that not the case?
At present all addons are automatically updated whether a user wants them to be or not and users are unable to uninstall the pre-installed search engines.
extensions.autoupdate.enabled?

Auto update is a high priority for Mozilla. You now have the pref to turn it off. You can also disable unwanted search engines. The search engines are shipped in the locales and can't be "removed".

Is there a visible pref to turn off auto-updates? After all it goes against the convention set on desktop where a user has a lot more control. Also as for search engines, is there a reason why they can't be removed? I'm at odds to understand why they can't be removed. Especially so in the Nightlies.

Also as Desktop auto updates now too. We want add-ons to be up to date. We do not want to encourage add-ons to be out-of-date. Mobile has far fewer visible prefs and this is not important enough to add a visible pref. > for search engines, is there a reason why they can't be removed? Desktop promotes auto-updates but the pref remains visible. The same sadly can't be said for mobile.
I prefer the desktop versions of Google and Wikipedia, but I can't install those because they have the same name as the bundled mobile versions. Disabling them doesn't help.
(In reply to comment #8) Thanks for mentioning this, this seems like a valid request, so I filed bug 660170 for it.
