This bug is for Sean with a soft deadline of sometime after the toolkit and sometime before the end of Q2, so we can test!
Objective: Design a "from scratch" landing page for http://mozilla.com/firefox/new that's different from anything we've ever done before!
Would be great if everyone can add links to landing pages you love & explain why, but Sean this is your show - from all the imagery you use to the content you determine (maybe to teach about the browser).
Blake, Laura, and CB all LOVE this layout & share as an example of a great coversion-focused top and lower-focused content bottom: https://donate.mozilla.org/page/contribute/protect-the-web

Sean, just FYI: illustrated pictures of yourself on the homepage is not allowed. Though I know that would do wonders for our brand and conversion rates. But we have to set *some* limitations

I propose a beard and/or mustache-based design. Am happy to brainstorm further if needed.

Hey guys, given the ongoing work on the toolkit, wordmarks, etc. I'm not sure if this is doable by end of Q2. But assigning to Sean so it's on his plate. If you definitely need something by end of Q2, then we can figure out resources and who can take it on. We can always discuss ideas here and have another designer put a mockup together.
Few quick suggestions from me:
* Putting some of the navigation elements back at the top of the page. I feel like all at the bottom makes the page look like it's still loading, an error, or something. I think it leaves users a little in the dark, and some of that information should be more readily available. Especially if someone wants to learn more about the product before downloading.
* Try a screenshot similar to the ones from the upgrade campaign, that show more of the product with characters embedded inside, vs. around.
* Try a screenshot similar to what we just did for the mobile promo pages. Where we see screenshots and Firefox across devices. Showing the full package.
* Try a video. Perhaps the brand oriented video, or something related. Lots of product download pages include quick video intros. I think that's great and something worth trying.
* Maybe a layout that has the header blurb stretch across the page more, vs. squished to the left.
* more to come :)

Oh I have plans for this. BIG plans. I'll mock it up.

Hey Sean - we're still interested in seeing your original but I know you've been busy at work with other projects. Is this something we can fire back up for Q3?

Not to speak for Sean, but he's got a lot on his plate (currently and coming) for Q3 around Apps and so forth, I just want to make sure we plan ahead and manage resources and his time (sanity) accordingly.

I think enough time has passed that we can close this bug. Sean will continue working on variations of the download page, but as part of different projects.
Chrissie, are you ok with us resolving it?
