Reset password is not sending email (again)

upon trying /forgot, I get the normal response screen:
"We have emailed a reset code to the email address we have on file for you. Please use it within the next 6 hours, or it will become invalid."
But, alas, no email.
My account email is external (gmail), in case that matters.
Postfix was stopped by something (likely puppet) on wp-adm01 at 6:11am Sunday, but did not resume correctly. Flushed stale password resets from wp-sreg01/02 mail queues and then started postfix on wp-adm01.
