WORKSFORME. Do you have a buggy extension interfering with the context search?
Please restart SeaMonkey in safe mode: Help->Restart with add-ons disabled.
And retest.
Thank you Philip Chee.
I tried again with 2.2. Had identical issue.
Renamed Seamonkey folder in ~/myaccount/Library/Application Support/ and 2.2 built new profile on opening, I did not have it import anything. Tried searching for terms right from the Mozilla splash page. Still get no search results, just Google search page with cursor waiting for my input.
I found the issue, and it's behavioral, but also possibly a bug.
I'm using the trackpad on my MacBook Pro, so one-finger click is left-click and two finger click is a right-click.
If I invoke the menu with a single-finger hold-click, or left-click, the search won't work and will go to the Google search page with no results.
If I use a two-finger click to invoke the same menu, then the search works.
In either case, a two- or one-finger click when selecting the "Search Google for..." menu item gets me a good search for the selected terms.

OK. I don't have a Mac so I'll CC a couple of people who can test on OSX.
Thanks for helping investigate.

There are two problems here:
- If you release the hold after click-and-hold has opened the context menu, the selection is lost and search doesn't know what to search for anymore.
- If you keep the hold after click-and-hold has opened the context menu, you can't select any entries in the menu.
Click-and-hold is (and always was) very unreliable in Mozilla, which is the reason why it's disabled by default in recent releases.
Some of these issues could possibly be fixed in the SeaMonkey frontend, but some nastier problems still need to be fixed in Mozilla core . :-/
Given that, plus that two mouse/trackpad buttons are standard even on Mac these days, plus that two-finger-click is even simplier, there isn't much priority on hunting these issues down. (But stefanh may disagree. *g*)
We'd be very grateful for any patch, though! :)
Confirmed on MacBook Pro (OSX 10.6.8) with current SM trunk.
