Details

1. nuke profile, create a fresh one
2. type in browser url window:
news://news.mozilla.org:119/%3C3A6DD905.4775947F@netscape.com%3E
(if you select "view source" you'll see a
<div class="moz-text-html" style="font-family: lucida; font-size: 100%;">
surrounding the message itself)
3. looks ok
4. go to prefs, change font size to a sensible 12 from the default 16
5. watch mailnews message fonts shrink accordingly (they look
like the same size that default html text now looks)
(if you view source, the 100% has changed to 75%)
the font size is probably 75% of font size 16
6. exit, restart, go to same url
7. see that the font size is now too way way small, 75% of font size 12

Yet another News + Font size bug.

It's not just news that this happens in.  It affects my mail windows as well. 
It seems like Mail Window Front End was more appropriate.
I get the same in error in input-fields of forms in the Browser, too.

Besides the fonts-preferences dialog seems to get confused by changing font-sizes.
If I change the font-sizes for "Western" all fonts in input-fields get tiny .
Subjectively I would say much to small for the chosen 12pt.
Going back to the fonts-preferences shows "Fonts for: ''" as default with all
font-sizes 8.
Changing "Fonts for:" to 'Western' shows the entered sizes.

Deleting the font-lines from prefs.js restores the original behaviour.

This is likely not a news bug, but noticing that changing proportional font sizes don't affect monospace fonts anymore, I'm RESO WFM
