User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.5; rv:2.0.1) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/4.0.1 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.5; rv:2.0.1) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/4.0.1 Just loading this webpage (on the web or saved as a local html file) causes Firefox to freeze. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: Just go to the webpage Actual Results: Firefox freezes and has to be force quit. Expected Results: Rendered the page normally. Firefox support for indic (Bengali) is normally excellent, so I am puzzled by what is in the webpage that crashes the browser.

WFM using Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.6; rv:2.0.1) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/4.0.1. Wondering if it is 10.5 specific? Are you running with any addons? Please try Firefox in Safe Mode if you are running any extensions.

Hi, tried just now in safe mode. Same problem. In fact, since the page is in my history, even when I start to type the url Firefox hangs. This page (and other Bengali script pages like this) have become the URLS that must not be typed on my browser.

It seems that this is a hang in the OS X system font libs. This looks like an OS X bug and that could explain why marcia doesn't get this with OS X 10.6 (reporter:10.5). The reporter could also have a broken font installed. Reporter: Please validate your fonts with fontbook (the os X system tool).

Thanks for the tip Matti. I ran fontbook and removed 4 fonts flagged as problematic. Now I can visit another indic site (http://dsal.uchicago.edu/dictionaries/biswas-bengali/) without crashing, but the original site keeps crashing my browser. I will try by removing fonts with "minor problems"

Bingo! It was a problem with my Bangla fonts with "minor problems" Thanks so much guys for helping me trouble shoot. I will now find a Bangla font that passes fontbook. I really appreciate the hard work you guys have put into Firefox's indic support.

In case anyone has the same problem and hits this thread and wants to get Bengali rendering working on Firefox: The only bangla font that I found that passes fontbook's tests AND renders properly in Firefox is (ironically enough) the Bangla font found at http://onkur.sourceforge.net/

Do you know which font caused the hang and from where do you got it ? Someone else have to confirm that this is either a font or OS X bug and nothing that we could fix in Firefox itself. I'm only an amateur for reading stack traces and I don't have OS X to test myself.

I believe it is any Bangla OTF font that fontbook flags as having a warning in the 'name' field. (I know nothing about fonts). An example is http://ekushey.org/?page/rupali Now, safari with those fonts does not crash. So safari is probably handling this problem font better than Firefox.
