Whenever I run RealPlayer, and then close Firefox, when I open Firefox again the Bookmarks Toolbar icons *disappear* even though "Bookmarks Toolbar" is still checked under "Options."  The Bookmarks Toolbar bar is still visible, but has no icons.  By unchecking "Bookmarks Toolbar," and then rechecking "Bookmarks Toolbar," the icons reappear.  This happens even when I have all the RealPlayer plug-ins disabled, and run RealPlayer through Internet Explorer.  (This sort of problem does not occur in Internet Explorer, so the conflict must be between Firefox and RealPlayer.)

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Pick audio or video, through Firefox. that opens on RealPlayer.
2. Run RealPlayer.
3. Close Firefox.
4. Reopen Firefox.
5. Bookmarks Toolbar icons are gone, although the bar remains visible.


Actual Results:  
Bookmarks Toolbar icons disappear.

Expected Results:  
Bookmarks Toolbar icons should remain, no matter what other software program is running.

Steps to undo problem.

1. Uncheck "Bookmarks Toolbar" through "Options."
2. Recheck "Bookmarks Toolbar" through "Options."
3. Bookmarks Toolbar icons reappear.

Reporter, what version of RealPlayer are you using?

Does the issue still occur if you start Firefox in Safe Mode? http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode

How about with a new, empty profile? http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Basic+Troubleshooting#Make_a_new_profile

I am using an older version of RealPlayer (14.0.3.647).  Later versions give me other problems!  (The only reason I use RealPlayer at all [I don't like it!] is because one website I go to requires it.)

Running Firefox in Safe Mode can't diagnose anything, as the problematic Bookmarks Toolbar is *not* displayed in Safe Mode!

Sadly, I am not computer-literate enough to try to create an empty profile without probably screwing-up!  Sorry.

I have just upgraded to the latest RealPlayer version (14.0.4.652) in order to test the problem, and the difficulties have multiplied!  Now, in addition to having all the Bookmarks Toolbar icons missing, when I restart Firefox after RealPlayer is loaded, my Home Page doesn't load automatically (I just get a *blank* New Tab)!

However, I am currently playing a sample video on RealPlayer, and I can close and restart Firefox just fine!  I now have the feeling that the website I use (http://www.otr.net/ -- which is a library of old-time radio shows that download only to RealPlayer) may be the culprit!  It works with IE9, however--which I never use.

Sorry about the form of this response, but it's the only way I know how to write!  I don't know computer-speak.

You might as well report this "bug" as solved.  I ran an IE diagnostic, and discovered that the culprit is RealPlayer--which is a complete disaster!  I've eliminated it from my machine, as apparently have many other people.  There are much better media players out there.

What is the Real Player "Extension?"  The only way I know that Real Player connects to Firefox is via its Plug-ins.  Obviously, I'm not as computer literate as you.
