As Cor-el mentioned here: https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/forums/contributors/706311 some threads don't have a solution or people find out that it was their own fault. In those cases they or we should be able to mark the thread as 'closed' and it should not show up in the search results.
We should think about how much this overlocks with "Locked" status. Besides hiding from search results, does this also prevent people from voting on the question or answers? Is this essentially "locked" but with a slightly different label?
Note that for me the emphasis is to make it possible for the thread creator to have "Solved It!" button to be able to mark their own post as the solution. That shouldn't necessarily include to lock that thread, so I do not think that closing the thread should be the default for such an action. Another idea is to have a helpful button for the creator to mark posts that helped or partially solved the problem, but still left questions open. Now you need to do that as a not signed in user. So maybe a radio list with multiple check-marking enabled that is opened via a drop marker would be a way to achieve this. Then the user can chose what to do. BTW: I would love to see a way to lock a thread or edit the first post or otherwise make changes without bumping it to page one. I sometimes see old threads from days back that are duplicates or may need editing, but I see no use in bumping such a thread to page one by doing that.
There are at least 3 new bugs in comment 2: * Thread creator can mark their own post as a solution. * Let creator mark answers helpful without marking them as the solution. * Lock the thread or edit the post shouldn't bump it to the top of the "recent" list. Those are all separate and out of scope of adding a "closed" status. I can file those separately on by Tuesday if no one else does it first.
Well, I guess I was first ;) Bug 669490 Bug 669493 Bug 669497 Regarding this bug: "closed" is different from "locked" in that "locked" threads might still be useful, we just don't want any new posts in them. But "closed" threads are ones that shouldn't show up for anyone else. I guess we could also delete them, but I'd rather use this method for Karma reasons.
(In reply to comment #4) > I guess we > could also delete them, but I'd rather use this method for Karma reasons. The way we store karma points does not require us to keep the original data around.
ah, okay, good to know :) The other point is that people should be able to close their own questions, when they figure out that the problem was on their side.

I think mods currently have the option to mark threads as solved (selecting a solution) but also they can close the thread. I think this bug is resolved?
Yep, moderators can do that.
