Hey Tara,

When we launch the new Firefox Affiliates program later in July, I'd like to have a couple of buttons for users to choose from. We already have the basic Firefox download buttons, we're going to re-purpose the plugin check buttons from SpreadFirefox and I'd like to add a recruiting button as well.

I had a chat with Bret and have filed a copy bug with Matej (https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=667996) If we can get this design for July 15, I think we can make it into the first round of buttons for launch. Can you let me know if you have design resources available.

These would be the specs:

Depending on how many lines matej comes up with (I think we'd need two at most)
Buttons would need to be available in 300x250, 160x600, 125x125 in several colours.

Let me know if you have any additional questions and thanks!
Hey chelsea, here are my questions:

* are you looking for entirely new designs? or updating existing styles to fit these?
* by recruiting, do you mean these are "mozilla" buttons, or still "Firefox"? that impacts design as well.
* So, for quantity, you're looking at 2 versions of copy, per size, in different colors? How many different colors?
* Design hand off is July 15th or you wish to go live on july 15th?

I'll see if Monique can do these. once I have the answers to the above, and get back to you.
Also, not sure if I see the copy bug. But, we'll need copy before we can do designs.
Tara, the link to the copy bug is in the first comment. Here it is again:

Answers,

I'm fine with using existing styles (unless Brett objects), but they are Mozilla buttons, not just Firefox, as it's for Mozilla recruiting. I know it's tricky as the Mozilla brand work isn't done. Perhaps we could Firefoxify it in terms of colour palette?

In terms of colours, if we could offer 2 or 3 (Blue, Green, Red)

We're hoping to go live with the new Affiliates program in July 18 (may get pushed back a week). I don't think we're going to localize these buttons (Brett, correct me if I'm wrong and if so, please advise which locales you'd like them in).

Cheers,
Chelsea
Hi there.

Trying to see if Monique can take this on. Otherwise, perhaps we can pull it in-hosue (pending resource availability)

In terms of design:
* I think they can echo existing designs, but we don't want to Firefoxify them too much.. right?
* What did our previous recruiting buttons look like? If you can attach screenshots of what we've done before, that will help dictate creative direction a bit.
* I'll do my best to get these to you asap, but first we'll need to craft the copy, and then try fitting it to the button designs. That process takes some time.
* As you know, we're also offsite next week, so that will slow things down a bit.
I'll try and find the old recruiting buttons for reference. I haven't been able to find them in the old SFX repository, but I'll keep hunting.

Thanks Tara!

Nice. Thanks Bret. too bad we've got the "join mozilla" engagement campaign... otherwise I really liked that CTA.

Hi all,
I'm attaching the 300x250 pixel versions for review. Copy is based on Bug 667996. I'll be on PTO this Thursday and Friday, so if there are no major set-backs or revisions, I can try to have the 2 other sizes (160x600 and 125x125) built out today. Thanks!
Thanks Lee. is there any way we can fit a Firefox logo (doesn't have to be a whole one...it often works well when it's partially bled off the page) in here? I think that makes the CTA much stronger.

Also, I like the copy in the left & middle columns, but "Do Good, Feel Better" doesn't really work for me.
Thanks for the feedback, John. I can certainly get the Firefox logo in there. Regarding copy, here are the versions Matej provided. Do you have a fave or an alternative, we could try instead of "Do Good, Feel Better"?

Build a better Web. Work for Mozilla.

Love the Web for a living.

Work for us from wherever you are.

A job in name only. Work for Mozilla.

Build your career. And a better Web.

Get the job of your dreams’ dreams.

Do good. Feel better. Work at Mozilla.

Work (and play) at Mozilla.
Actually, I'm feeling "Love the Web for a living."

anyone agree?
I was feeling that one too. I also like "A job in name only", but we can go with "love the web" if we only need one more.
Firefox logo started to get a bit abstract (less scaleable for the diff version of copy too) as a cropped background image. Here it is next to CTA, under "Love the web..." copy.
Me like.
I think the ribbon should be at the top of the icons. So the action is "Work for Mozilla" and the text is why you want to do that action. Sort of a silent 'to'

"Work for Mozilla"
*Build a better Web
*Love the Web
*Contribute from Anywhere

I think flipping these messages makes for a more active voice. Also means you don't have to do so much with the lead-in.

Thoughts?
I see your point, but don't really agree. I think "Work for Mozilla" makes a nice, strong call to action and those usually go at the bottom of promos like this. We're basically following the formula from last time of interesting headline to get your attention + strong CTA.
I agree that this order of messaging works well - Hook on top, strong CTA to seal the deal!

Here are the assets and working files for all 21 versions of this button:

Looks like I'm out voted.

But I still like these simple slogans:
* Beef, it's what's for dinner
* Cotton, the fabric of our lives

* Mozilla, it's bad ass

:)

Matej, why didn't you think of this???

I like the attitude and wink of it, but it's a tag line (like the Beef and Cotton lines in comment 19), not a recruiting message or CTA. There's no benefit in it as to why someone might want to work at Mozilla or what they'd get out of it.

Also, as much as I love to push the envelope, I'm not super comfortable using the word "ass" in relation to Mozilla (not to mention the l10n nightmare it would create).
(Agreed, I was just kidding around.)
Thanks Matej and Lee for all your work on this. I'm pretty happy with what you worked out here. Lee are those assets good to go?
Hey Chelsea, this bug is also close-able. Final PSDs and PNGs are linked in Comment 18.
