Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; rv:5.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/5.0
Build ID: 20110615151330

Steps to reproduce:

When the Menu Bar is visible, middle-clicking on a link in any page does not do anything.

When the Menu Bar is invisible, the middle-click works as normal.

I tested this on a newly installed Firefox 5 with new profile (no add-ons, default settings). I also checked the configuration of my touchpad (which does have a real middle button).

Expected results:

The middle-click on a link should open it in a new tab or window independently of whether the Menu Bar is visible or not.
OS: Other → Windows 7
Hardware: All → x86
It works fine for me on Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; rv:7.0a1) Gecko/20110630 Firefox/7.0a1, regardless of the menu bar visibility.

Can you reproduce this on a clean Firefox profile? Thanks

Bug confirmed on Firefox 5.0 both with a clean profile (and new re-installation) and running in safe mode.

I'll maybe move to 7.0 then, or explore if there's something else causing this.

Could you try to see if this is reproducible on the latest Firefox Nightly:

Thanks.
